So-your head hurts, you are feeling clammy, tired, achy...and you want your mommy! You are sick! Teachers hate calling in sick. While it does seem as if it will be more work for us when we get back to work-stay home. The policy is a full 24 fever-free hours for our students before they can come back to school-the same needs to apply to teachers. This is especially true during this flu-pandemic season. A new strand of flu is expected after the first of November (H1N1 isn't the only player in town) and it is supposed to be severe as well. If this flu takes you down-expect to be convalescing for almost a week. Be sure to drink plenty of fluids, as dehydration is common. *If you are at a higher risk for complications from the flu-talk to your doctor as soon as possible if you develop any flu-like symptoms. You may benefit from antiviral medicines.

IN THE CLASSROOM ACTION PLAN TO PREVENT THE SPREAD OF FLU
Be a good role model for hygiene. Cough and sneeze in your elbow. Use a tissue to prevent the transmission of germs. Wash hands regularly with soap and use anti-bacterial cleansers. Clean surface items such as desks, door knobs, and computer keyboards frequently. Keep an eye out for students who appear ill and refer them to the school nurse/office for a health evaluation.
